As the quintessential Jewish Style Delicatessen, of course Sarge’s Delicatessen and Diner had to participate in New York Deli Month this August.
New York Deli Month was the brainchild of deli owner Ziggy Gruber who operates Kenny & Ziggy’s in Houston, Texas. Ziggy founded the event last year in collaboration with Jay Parker, owner of Ben’s Best Deli in Rego Park, NY. The first Deli Month came only a year after Gruber was prominently featured in the documentary “Deli Man” chronicling the history of the once-thriving Jewish deli business throughout the country.
This year nearly 30 delis coast to coast will participate, including Manny’s Coffee Shop & Deli in Chicago, Canter’s deli in Los Angeles, Merion Delicatessen & Restaurant in Philadelphia, Hobby’s Delicatessen & Restaurant in Newark, NJ, and, of course, Sarge’s Delicatessen & Diner in New York. Each deli involved with offer special dishes or menus and a pledge to donate a portion of sales to a charity in their community.
This year Sarge’s three course menu is packed with all of your deli favorites, and available throughout August for a fixed price of $37.00! A portion of the proceeds from this special offering will be donated to the Museum of Jewish Heritage.
See nydelimonth.com for a list of all participating delis, menus, and charitable causes.
